School History 

Lynwood Community Adult School (LCAS) was established on October 23, 1953, and opened as an Adult School in 1954. The first classes offered were sewing, cooking and home economics. Later, in 1955, academic classes leading to a high school diploma were added. From 1960 to 1971, English as a Second Language (ESL) classes were added with the first Adult Basic Education classes being offered in 1971. In 1980, a technology department was created, and computer classes were offered. In 1986, the first Vocational Nursing program was established. During the 1990’s, expansion of class offerings included Medical Billing and Coding, Computer Repair, Security Guard training, High School Equivalency Test preparation (added a day class), Community Based Tutoring, Distance Learning (ESL), and Automotive Repair. In the 2000’s, LCAS gained a permanent site located at 11277 Atlantic Avenue. In total,Lynwood Unified School District (LUSD) has one adult school, two high schools, one continuation school, one alternative high school, three middle schools, and twelve elementary schools.
