Teacher Biography

I am an instructor in the English As A Second Language Program and a Sixth Grade Elementary School Teacher. I have taught in Lynwood Unified School District for 28 years. For 22 of those years, I have taught English As A Second Language at Lynwood Community Adult School. I currently teach an intermediate high and advanced ESL where students get a mixture of reading, grammar, conversation, and listening practice. I earned a BA in American Literature from the University of Southern California  and a MA in Curriculum and Instruction from Grand Canyon University. Additionally, I am a dedicated and enthusiastic educator with a desire to make a difference in the lives of all my students.

Educational Philosophy

I believe my role as an educator is to foster and encourage the lifelong learning of my students. Through real-world scenarios, classroom discussions, and even with some humor I hope to  encourage students to think outside the box and to reach their maximum potential.  I am also strongly committed to ensuring instruction is differentiated in order to meet the needs of the various learning styles of students. Differentiated instruction can come in the form of a process, a product, or even during assessment. Through differentiation, I believe that when students are provided with the opportunity to learn in the way that best suits them, they will flourish and eventually take control of their learning experience.

Creating a welcoming learning environment is very important, especially for my adult learners. As a teacher, I am fully cognizant of the fact that I help to define the school experience for my students. Because of that, I diligently work to leave my students with a positive educational experience.
